Since the first pair of Respons Grand were manufactured in 1983 our loudspeakers has been consistently known for its wonderful ability to reproduce recorded music with a neutral yet engaging presentation. Over the years our loudspeakers have always amazed the most discriminating music lovers and accomplished musicians with a holographic three dimensional soundstage. With the introduction of the Grand Limited Edition in 2003 a major step forward in sound quality was achieved. However since we never rest on our laurels and seek to produce the most natural sounding loudspeakers available, we are now proud to introduce a new generation of speakers based on a revolutionary filter technology called Dimension or D for short. This new crossover along with some other noteworthy enhancements literally removes the physical presence of the loudspeakers from your listening environment and just delivers the music the way it was recorded with all of its natural splendour comparable to what audiophiles find appealing with tube electronics or analogue front ends.

The cabinet
The Grand D has the same absorbing felt and complex pyramid shape as the rest of the Grand models to effectively reduce baffle reflections. The cabinet is precision cut on a CNC machine and made of a 50mm HD sandwich construction with viscoelastic layer as all our models which makes the cabinet exceptionally quiet. All wood veneer is handcrafted for optimal finish. A 34 mm MDF protection front is submitted as standard.

The speaker units
The Grand D's driver units are sourced from Scanspeak. We use the highly acclaimed Scanspeak ring radiator tweeter which allows a frequency response above 40 kHz at full level. Even if the human ear can't assimilate information above 20 kHz, the noise level is lower and you will find that the ring radiator is a more natural sounding tweeter in comparison with other tweeters. The straight frequency response above 20 kHz is just a result of its excellent design.
The midrange is a 5" Revelator and is considered one of the best midranges in production today. The bass is controlled by Scanspeaks latest woofer design the 10" Revelator woofer.

The Crossover
The heart of any loudspeaker is the crossover and the The Grand D's crossover is based on our new Dimension technology. The network is a hand-built and wired point-to-point. We use a 24dB-per-octave acoustic slope design with custom air cored inductors, propylene capacitors and MIT multicaps.
We only use extremely tight tolerances and temperature stable resistors. The Grand D's crossover is specified at 0,5% tolerance throughout the whole signal path. This doesn't tell you much if you don't know that it's not unusual for other high-end manufactures to have tolerances of between +/- 10-20 %. In order to keep the tolerance at 0,5% we not only match every component, we also adjust the crossover for each pair of speaker units we receive because the speaker units do not always have the same measurements when they arrive from the factory.
The Grand D is internally wired with a custom designed oxygen free copper cable for best transference and connected with Cardas rhodium plated oxygen free copper binding posts. It will be possible to upgrade the Grand D in the future.

The Sound
Listening to the Grand D for the first time will always be a memorable experience. The tweeter transmits the highest frequencies effortlessly and without harshness or colorations even at loud listening levels. Dynamic contrasts between notes and soft to loud passages are presented with astonishing accuracy. Musicians and vocalists are presented at their natural height as if someone were singing or playing the instrument right in front of you; this is not always the case in other designs where the instruments and vocalists usually are presented in a manner that is a lot larger than in real life.
You will also notice that the horizontal and vertical dispersion is remarkably good. Even if you move outside the sweet spot you will find that the soundstage will not collapse.
After listening to the Grand D for a while you will discover that it has unlimited dynamics at both ends of the scale, handling any type of music effortlessly.
Don't take our word for it, just close your eyes and you will feel as if you are sitting in front of the musicians.

When it comes to natural sound reproduction we are extremely confident that you can put the new Respons Grand D up against any competitor regardless of price and feel completely satisfied with what you have purchased.
