The Respons Artist 2 is produced to make realistic sound accessible to those who can't afford the expensive top models, but still want a natural full range sound. So what makes the Artist 2 different from other designs claiming the same?

The Sound
If you have listened to 2-way designs before, you know that they can't produce deep, solid and well defined bass at high volumes. But 2-way systems aren't the only ones with this problem.
When a loudspeaker lacks bass the mid/top range will be more defined, but it will lose the tonal balance and the ability to reproduce the natural warmth from voices and instruments. You will find that this type of sound harsh and in the end it will result in listening fatigue. The lack of bass will also make the music lose its drive and rhythm.
The artist 2 offers the same musical realism you appreciate with the Grand series and can without problems be matched with all of them in a surround set up. When listening to the Artist 2 You will find that it can match both 3-way designs and more expensive loudspeakers when it comes to musical realism and bass. The Artist 2's bass performance is actually so good that our costumers usually get rid of their subwoofers or don't feel the need to buy one for their surround setups.

The Design
We knew from the beginning that we had to find a 6" or 7" speaker unit that could reproduce not only an excellent midrange, but also deliver a deep, tight and well defined bass. We found these qualities in a slightly modified 7" speaker unit from Scan-Speak. The whole point with our pyramid shaped Grand models is to avoid baffle reflections. But with the potent Scan-Speak 7" speaker unit we could produce a 2-way system in a more cost effective rectangular cabinet, and still get a small baffle to avoid baffle reflections. The obvious savings in using only 2 speaker units (2-way design) is that we need less components in the crossover, and a smaller crossover takes less time to manufacture. This together with the more cost effective cabinet was enough to get the price down without having to make compromises in achieving a realistic sound.

The cabinet
The cabinet is made of a 28mm HD sandwich construction with a viscoelastic layer as all our models. Which makes the cabinet exceptionally quiet. The cabinet is precision cut on a CNC machine for best precision. All wood veneer is handcrafted for optimal finish.

The speaker units
The Artist 2's driver units are sourced from Scanspeak. We use the highly acclaimed Scanspeak Revelator tweeter which is the same tweeter we used on the Grand models before the Ringradiator. The mid/woofer is a version of Scanspeak 7" Revelator and this is the same speaker unit we use on the Baby Grand.

The Crossover
The heart of any loudspeaker is the crossover, and the Artist 2's crossover network is hand-built and wired point-to-point. We use a 24dB-per-octave acoustic slope design with the same custom air cored inductors fond in the Grand D, and propylene capacitors fond in the Grand Artist D. We only use extremely tight tolerances and temperature stable resistors. The crossover is specified at 1% tolerance throughout the whole signal path. This doesn't tell you much if you don't know that it's not unusual for other high-end manufactures to have a tolerance of between +/- 10-20 %. In order to keep the tolerance at 1% we not only match every component, we also adjust the crossover for each pair of speaker units we receive because the speaker units do not always have the same measurements when they arrive from the factory.
The Artist 2 is internally wired with a custom designed oxygen free copper cable for best transference.
